Sawers Receives Hope Professorship

Faculty HeadshotAssociate Professor of Accounting Kim Sawers has received the Hope Professorship of Leadership and Ethics for the coming three-year term. The professorship was established in 1993 to enhance the mission of SPU by providing our students and the business community with state-of-the art teaching, scholarship, and contribution in leadership and ethics. Kim is wonderfully deserving of this honor for her accomplishments both in and out of the classroom.

Kim primarily teaches managerial accounting; she also teaches intermediate accounting and spirituality in business, and has recently developed an undergraduate accounting research course. In addition, she provides extensive advising to undergraduate accounting students regarding the academic and professional requirements of an accounting career and the requirements for the CPA exam.

Kim’s research focuses on decisionmaking within a managerial accounting context and draws on theories from accounting, economics, psychology, and organizational behavior. She has received numerous academic accolades, including the American Accounting Association’s 2002 Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award, SBE Scholar of the Year Award (2011), and SBE Teacher of the Year Award (2012). Kim is very involved with the American Accounting Association, serving most recently as the president of its Accounting, Behavior, and Organizations section.
