Doctor of Education and Superintendent Certification
The School of Education offers an option that combines the EdD degree and Superintendent Certification in an accelerated format. Both sequences can be completed in just three years. The accelerated pace maintains the quality of each stand-alone program, including the practical focus on P–12 school issues for the EdD and the development of administrative and leadership skills in the superintendent courses and internship.
Who Should Pursue This Degree
If you want to earn the credentials to become a superintendent or a district office administrator at an accelerated pace, this program is for you. The new combined three-year Doctor of Education (EdD) and Superintendent Certification merges the two programs, allowing you to attain your educational goals more quickly. If you're interested in other education-related careers, such as nonprofit and higher education administration, this program can serve those needs as well.
Designed for working professionals, the EdD/Superintendent Certification program offers most classes on Saturdays and some Friday afternoons/evenings. In summer, classes may be offered during the day. The program utilizes a semi-cohort model, with a new cohort beginning each summer.
Superintendent Certification Specialization
The Superintendent Certification program is for individuals who hold teaching certificates and who want to pursue district-level administrative assignments in the P–12 school setting, such as superintendent, deputy superintendent, associate and assistant superintendent, director, and other similar roles. The three-year combined EdD/Superintendent Certification blends best leadership practices with effective utilization of education policy and research. It emphasizes the knowledge and skills needed for today's and tomorrow's educational leaders, from building principals to school district superintendents.
