A native of the Washington, D.C. area, Jamie Coles Burnette is happily embracing the West Coast by way of teaching at Seattle Pacific University. After receiving her undergraduate degree in Near Eastern Studies at The Johns Hopkins University, she received her master of divinity degree from Wesley Theological Seminary and a master of arts in Biblical Studies (specializing in Old Testament) from The Catholic University of America.
Mrs. Burnette's areas of academic interest and research include royal women of the Bible, and the conversation between the literature of the Ancient Near East and the Bible. At SPU, she teaches University Foundations courses in Christian Formation and Scripture.
She has strong roots in the Wesleyan-holiness tradition, being raised in the Church of God in Christ denomination. When not teaching in an academic setting, she enjoys serving the community of faith and all humanity as ordained clergy through teaching and preaching. She is also very passionate about facilitating the development of women seeking to embrace their call to ministry.
