Why I work at SPU

“I am a matchmaker at heart – I like to match students with great opportunities, and help them find a good fit for their next job or career. And I love helping employers find great employees, like SPU students. I think SPU students are a gift to the world, and I love finding ways for them to share the best of themselves in Seattle and beyond.”

The best career advice I have ever received, heard, or given

"No one will manage your career – it’s your job. No one will care nearly as much about what you do, where you are headed, or the goals you want to reach for yourself or your community. So you have to be in charge of managing it – no one else.
Also – most people will have upwards of 12 jobs and 5 different careers. So don’t be afraid to switch it up and try something new. You won’t be alone in that pursuit! God gives us all sorts of opportunities, and when we take the time to discern our next steps, we can head in a new direction with excitement and confidence."

A time I failed at something that taught me a lot

"After college, I worked at a family-run hotel in Switzerland, and had to take my rusty German skills to a whole new level. I failed at that a lot. My communication with my co-workers suffered, and it taught me a lot of humility. It also taught me courage to keep going, keep trying, and learn how to communicate beyond just words."

What motivates me

"Helping others blast past their own barriers. Always trying new things. Not keeping things the way they are just because they’ve always been that way."

Three of my favorite hobbies

"Skiing with my kids, walking Lake Washington with my husband, and my new favorite: pickleball!"

The last book I've read for fun

"Black Lamb and Grey Falcon, a 800-page tome about the history of the former Yugoslavia which is super fascinating because my grandpa hailed from the island of Hvar in Croatia."

How I have "designed a meaningful life and career" for myself

"I never believed the hype about a career, meaning I never believed that I had to be on a perfect, professional journey in order to achieve success. I once quit a job to stay home as a mom for a few years. Later, I quit my favorite job ever to go on an around the world trip with my family. For me, it’s balancing the things I really want out of life while maintaining a career that also makes me feel like I’m making an impact in people’s lives."
