Why I work at SPU

"I chose SPU because the campus reminded me so much of where I completed my undergraduate degree at! The beautiful trees, the brick buildings, it all brings me joy each day that I step foot on campus. As a transplant from the Midwest, having a sense of "home" at work really means a lot to me."

The best career advice I have ever received, heard, or given

"My favorite career advice came from my mom. She told me "never settle for a job that doesn't bring you joy." There are so many directions to take in life, and I truly believe you shouldn't settle for anything less than happiness."

What motivates me

"My family motivates me. I have an amazing daughter who I want to demonstrate to that women can do it all if they want! Family. Career. Friends. You don't have to just pick one. Additionally, my students motive me. I love to champion students and help them find their path in life. It's why I went into Higher Education!"

Three of my favorite hobbies

"Baking. Board Games. Soccer. In no particular order."

The last book I've read for fun

"Does The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum count? I have a very young daughter, so most of my books these days are for children. But the Wizard of Oz has been my favorite film since I was little!"

How I have "designed a meaningful life and career" for myself

"I have always felt like my calling extends outside of just my day to day job. While I strongly feel called to working in Higher Education, for me, a meaningful life and career is so much more. I make sure to incorporate my other passions, such as live theatre and event planning, that I can't fit into my day job, into my evenings and weekends. This helps me to feel fulfilled across all facets of my life. I also put a strong emphasis on work/life balance! This took me a while to learn, but doing so has dramatically improved my wellbeing."
