Dr. Cindy Dong joined SPU after receiving her Doctor in Nursing Practice from the University of Washington in 2020. Clinically, she is an advanced registered nurse practitioner (ARNP) with national certification as an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. Her nursing background is in primary care settings working with underserved and multiethnic patient populations in Seattle and rural Washington.  

Dr. Dong is originally from China and is fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin. She was an international student who has been living independently since the age of 14, first at a four-year boarding high school in Charlottesville, Virginia, and then as a baccalaureate and graduate student in Seattle.  

She is the co-founder and vice president of the Pacific-Northwest Chinese Nurses Association (PCNA), where she works passionately to recruit and support underrepresented minority groups in nursing through ongoing mentorship and professional development workshops. Her commitment to promoting diversity in nursing was also reflected in her DNP project in partnership with the Washington Center for Nursing, which addressed Chinese American nurses' perspectives on becoming nurse faculty. Dr. Dong has additional research interests in the efficacy of multi-modal analgesics in perioperative pain medicine and the mechanism of cellular aging in Caenorhabditis elegans.
