Reader's Workshop: A Comprehensive Approach to Reading Instruction (Grades 3-12)

Reader's Workshop provides the opportunity for all students to self select reading materials at their instructional levels in order to learn the skills and strategies of successful readers as outlined in the Reading EALR's. While the over all goal is to instill a love of reading, the Reader's Workshop approach allows the teacher to individualize reading instruction through conferences, literature circles, response journals, book projects and skill lessons focusing on vocabulary and reading comprehension strategies. Features include:

  • Simulations for literature circles and student conferences
  • Vocabulary acquisition strategies
  • Strategies for student assessment including scoring response journal entries
  • Skill lessons that link thinking skills to the story elements.
  • Participant's will self-select a Reader's Workshop book for their grade levels as the course reading material.
