Nancy J. Johnson, Ph.D., is a professor of English Education at Western Washington University, where she teaches courses in childrenšs literature, young adult literature, English/language arts methods and writing. A former elementary and high school teacher, she consults with teachers and in school districts locally and across the state and nation. In addition, she is a national faculty member of the Marthašs Vineyard Summer Institute on Writing and Teaching. She co-edited Literature Circles and Response (Christopher-Gordon Pub. Inc., 1995) and co authored Getting Started with Literature Circles (with Katherine L. Schlock Noe, Christopher-Gordon Pub., 1999). She is also co-author of the monthly "Childrenšs Books" column in The Reading Teacher and serves as a board member of the Childrenšs Literature Assembly.
