Financial Aid: Paying for College Spacer Focus On:
Financial Aid

Save Student Aid: Last year the Washington State Legislature contemplated dramatic reductions in Washington State Need Grant and State Work-Study aid. Fortunately, the state legislature actually increased statewide funding of the State Need Grant, keeping the State Work-Study program alive. The state legislature begins to debate the latest funding challenges of the state budget on November 28.

If your student receives state funding or you would like to lend your support to financially needy students, add your voice to the conversation when critical funding decisions are being made. Connect with your representative by visiting SaveStudentAid.org.

Winter Quarter Payment Plan: The deadline for quarter-specific payment plans is December 9. If you are not currently enrolled in a payment plan and would like to be, please visit Student Financial Services for more details about payment option C.

Christmas Packages Spacer 2011 Christmas Care Packages

Each year during finals week in December, the SPU Residence Life staff distributes care packages to all students living in residence halls, campus houses, and campus apartments. As a parent or guardian, you should have received a letter inviting you to write a personal note to your student and to contribute $4 to offset the cost of the various goodies included in the gift bag. If your student is living in a residence hall, campus house, or campus apartment, but you have not received your letter yet, please contact the Office of Residence Life at 206-281-2043, or Stacia Cumberland at cumberlands@spu.edu.

Cellphone Alerts Spacer Make Sure Your Student Is "SPU Alert"

In the event of a campuswide emergency, the SPU Alert system sends email, text, and voice messages about the situation to the University community. But this only works if people are signed up to receive them. During Autumn Quarter 2011, the number of new freshman signed up for alerts dropped to 52 percent. Remind your student to sign up in the Banner Information System, which is available 24/7. Learn more with SPU's Emergency Plan.
