Social Venture Plan Competition Ninth Annual Social Venture Plan Competition
Student teams from diverse disciplines from SPU and other universities are finalizing their business plans and presentations for the live trade-show event on the SPU campus, April 16. More popular than ever, the ninth annual Social Venture Plan Competition challenges students to develop a viable plan to address a social need.

Last year’s winner of the $3,000 grand prize was a collaboration between engineering and business students. Sound Steps’ mission was to develop high-quality and affordable lower-limb prosthetics for amputees in developing nations.

SPRINT 2015 “SPRINT”ing Into Summer
This summer eight teams of students will travel with SPRINT (Seattle Pacific Reachout International) to learn and serve alongside local leaders around the globe. Through international service-learning and mission trips ranging from two to six weeks, SPRINT connects students to effective models of community engagement and service outside the United States.

You can get involved by supporting fundraising efforts going on now. If you live near campus, hire a SPRINT student for a work project around the house. Email Maddy Petrowski (petrowskim@spu.edu) for more information. $10 per student per hour.

2015–16 Tuition Costs Announced
On March 2, next year’s undergraduate tuition and room and board rates, with an increase of approximately 4.5 percent, were announced following the February 2015 Board of Trustees meeting. View the 2015–16 costs.

General Keith Alexander“Hackers, Spies, and Freedom”
Seattle Pacific University is bringing the former head of the National Security Agency (NSA) and retired four-star Army Gen. Keith B. Alexander to campus April 9 for a free public lecture.

Alexander is widely regarded as one of the world’s foremost experts on cybersecurity, a topic of growing concern in America. At this event, he will offer an insider’s perspective on espionage, cybersecurity, and privacy.

This free public lecture is Thursday, April 9, 7 p.m., in Royal Brougham Pavilion.

Sociology Professor Jennifer McKinney Sociology Professor in Relevant Magazine
Professor of Sociology Jennifer McKinney was quoted in the 2015 March/April issue of Relevant magazine in a story titled “The Faults in Our Stars: What Can We Learn From the Downfall of Mark Driscoll and Mars Hill Church?” The story was written by Ruth Moon. Read the story online.

Professor Mike Hamilton History Professor’s Article Published
An article by Associate Professor of History Michael Hamilton titled “Philanthropic Funding, the ISAE and Evangelical Scholarship” has been published in the Evangelical Studies Bulletin 88 (Fall 2014). The article is a brief reflective look back at major philanthropy funding of evangelical scholarship over the past 35 years.
