THOMAS BEAGLE was featured in the "Our Town Leaders" series of the Antioch (California) Ledger Dispatch in December. After graduating from Cascade College with a bachelor of arts in speech, Tom earned his master's degree in theatre lighting from San Jose State University. He taught at Antioch High School for 30 years, retiring in 1996. In the 1970s he developed a theatre model in which the director interprets the playwright, and works with performers and designers to produce the intent of the text. Because of this model he gained national recognition and became president of the national Secondary School Theater Association, regional director of the International Thespians and first vice president of the United States Institute for Theater Technology. He continues to work in theatre in the community and is currently involved in the establishment of Antioch Rivertown Theatre. He and his wife, Genevieve, have been married 19 years.
