In Memoriam

CLARICE BARTLETT, CASCADE '36, died January 15, 1998, following a stroke. She was 83. Clarice married Lloyd Bartlett in 1938 and together they were active in the Free Methodist Church until his death in 1977. A homemaker who was involved in children's ministry and music ministry, Clarice lived in Salem, Oregon, from 1955 to 1992, and at Warm Beach Health Care Center until 1997. She is survived by her children, GERALD BARTLETT '61, ROBERT BARTLETT '63, DOUGLAS BARTLETT '65 and CAROL BARTLETT '70; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

SILAS LELAND DESPAIN '48 died November 18, 1997, at the age of 89. After attending business college in Missouri, he began a 20-year career of civil service in Washington, D.C., and Seattle, as well as two years of military service in the US Navy during World War II. After graduating magna cum laude from SPC and earning a master's degree from the University of Washington, he began a second career as a professor at Northwest Bible College and SPC in Seattle, and at Central Bible College and Evangel College in Springfield. After his retirement in 1974, Leland enjoyed gardening and working in his tool shop. He is survived by his wife, Avis; two sons; three grandsons; and one great-grandchild.

MILTON ENGEBRETSON '67 died December 10, 1996, after a long struggle with cancer.

DAVID HARTMAN '54 died on October 25, 1997, at the age of 64. He was a Free Methodist pastor for 17 years, and then worked as a heating and air conditioning estimator until his retirement five years ago. In September, David had celebrated the 45th anniversary of his wedding to Marcia, whom he married while a student at SPC. He is survived by Marcia, four children and four grand- children.

ARLENE MOORES HUNTER '53 died of pancreatic cancer on October 31, 1997.

ARDEN LAWRENCE '46 died in April 1997.
