Visual Communication major, Art History minor 2012

With a background in visual communications, graphic design, and art history, Nagel is living into insatiable curiosity, what she describes as a theme in her life. During the week, Nagel works as a graphic designer at WONGDOODY, one of the most awarded independent advertising agencies on the West Coast. She works with a wide spectrum of clients from Fortune 500 companies to local nonprofits. On the weekends, she can be found working on installation art at her church as a member of the sanctuary design team.

How does your time at SPU connect to the work you’re doing today?

Serving in various on-campus leadership positions equipped me to think both strategically and relationally while tackling projects. This ability, alongside the professional training my major provided, allowed me to enter the world of advertising with a holistic skill set that reached beyond just developed aesthetic sensibilities.

Who made a difference in your SPU education?

Karen Guwtowsky-Zimmerman has been an ever-present source of encouragement, enthusiasm, and insight, from my first visit to her office as a high school student to the present. As the head of her department, she acts as both cheerleader and guide, while simultaneously maintaining relationships with current students and alumni alike. I am forever grateful for her generous spirit and the deep knowledge she so readily offers.

What advice do you have for students about life after graduation?

Engage with your fellow graduates, because in years they will prove to be your allies.
