As a sixth grade math teacher, Dolby feels her work is exactly what she was made to do. While no longer officially a Young Life leader, she continues to mentor high school students and remain connected with the ministry. Most recently, Dolby created a curriculum for the women’s Bible study she leads that will focus on identity through studying women of Scripture. During her summers off she finds some way to serve.
How does your time at SPU connect to the work you’re doing today?
I am so thankful for the opportunities I had to begin preparing for my career in my undergraduate studies at SPU, particularly going into elementary and middle school classrooms to observe teachers and work with students. I was also a Wyldlife leader at McClure Middle School on Queen Anne during my time at SPU and this was a significant influence on me teaching middle school instead of elementary school.
Who made a difference in your SPU education?
Aside from being one of the most dedicated professors I had at SPU, Dr. Sharon Young was one of the most influential academic mentors who shaped how I teach math and continues to be one of my biggest cheerleaders. I’m thankful for her encouragement and all that I learned from her.
What advice do you have for students about life after graduation?
Take leaps of faith.
