Admissions job: As transfer admissions counselor, I work with students with some college experience who would like pursue an academic program at SPU. I am available to help prospective students navigate the admissions cycle and can be found at transfer fairs, events, and even for one-on-ones or coffee appointments to answer any questions about the process of joining our campus community!
Hometown: I was born in Korea, but consider Seattle to be my hometown.
Education: Edmonds-Woodway High School, Western Washington University (BA in Linguistics & TESOL), University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (EdM in Education Policy, Organization, and Leadership)
Favorite Seattle Restaurant: How can I pick just one? I love trying food from all over the world.
A trip I’d like to take: I’d love to go to Tanzania to climb Kilimanjaro (and go on a safari, of course).
Family: I have family around Washington (including my parents) and in Arizona, and my mom’s family still live in South Korea.
Books reading now: My favorite book is One Second After by William R. Forstchen. I love Harlan Coben books, and I am currently reading The Tattooist of Auschwitz for a book club I run.
Favorite Movie: Prisoners, Running Scared, Equilibrium. I am also a huge Marvel and Disney fan.
Favorite thing about SPU: The community! Everyone here is always positive and friendly. It’s a very warm and welcoming campus that feels like a huge family.
Advice for high school/transfer students: Take advantage of all the opportunities you can. Sometimes it may be intimidating to try new things or take a leap of faith, but it’s a better learning experience for you to try something and end up not liking it than to avoid taking chances and wondering what would have happened if you did.
Hobbies & Fun Facts: I love hiking! I am the Washington ambassador for Girls Who Hike and lead group events every month (non-hiking events, too). I also love Spartan Races.
