A cultural and historical survey of non-western music traditions that function as identity for indigenous people, national heritage, faith, and ethnicity. Students will recognize acculturation and musical change as part of world music and understand the impact of Western Colonialism on the development of musical styles and genres in particular regions. The process includes reading, writing, listening, and analysis.
