EDRD 2500: Psychology of Reading and Writing (2026-2027)

Explores current theories of literacy development, with an emphasis on the cognitive processes involved in learning to read and write. Topics include the linguistic and non-linguistic foundations of reading, word recognition, reading fluency, reading comprehension, and reading disabilities (e.g., dyslexia), as well as the influence of home and school environments on language and literacy development. The course also addresses writing development for K–8 learners, including foundational writing skills, written expression, and strategies for supporting students in composing and communicating ideas effectively across grade levels.
