View all COM classes
In this fundamental course, applicable to every other subject, students will practice both speaking up in public and speaking to a public. The focus of this course is on creating speeches for every occasion: from persuasive boardroom proposals to wedding toasts, from student protests to school board meetings, etc. Through games, activities and personal preparation, students will gain confidence, improve competence and hone their skills to become capable speakers and thoughtful consumers of other’s speeches. Because SPU’s student body is diverse, students hear from and actively participate in supporting, encouraging and offering formative feedback to diverse speakers in the classroom. Typically offered: Autumn, Winter, Spring.
