ENG 4899: Art & the Epiphanic Experience (2024-2025)

Senior Capstone in English. In this capstone course for English majors, students will explore testimonies from writers, artists, and scholars about their own formative experiences with art, reading and reflecting on texts by memoirist Patricia Hampl, poet Mark Doty, and theologian Henri Nouwen, as well as Chaim Potok's novel My Name is Asher Lev. They will also compose two major essays: one, a reflection on their own formative encounters with art and literature; the other, a research essay on a particular artist or scholar whose work has influenced them. May be repeated for credit 1 time.
