Seattle Pacific University celebrates Commencement with two separate ceremonies: a graduate ceremony (for master’s and doctoral degrees) and an undergraduate ceremony (for bachelor's degrees). Below you’ll find the complete schedule.

Ivy Cutting (undergraduate students)
Friday, June 10, 9:30–10:30 a.m., Tiffany Loop

Ivy Cutting has been part of graduation rites at Seattle Pacific University since 1922. Graduating undergraduate students and SPU faculty members don their academic garb and assemble in Tiffany Loop beneath towering elm trees, continuing this tradition. The ceremony represents both the students’ tie to Seattle Pacific and the independence that comes with graduation.

Light refreshments follow in Tiffany Loop. Tickets are not required, but graduates should wear caps and gowns.

Note: This is an outdoor ceremony. If rain is in the forecast, please plan accordingly.

Graduate Hooding Ceremonies (master’s and doctoral students)
Friday, June 10, various times and on-campus locations

Graduating master’s degree students are invited to their school’s or program’s Graduate Hooding Ceremony, during which their program director and/or dean will hood them. Doctoral students are also invited, but they will be formally hooded at Commencement. Graduates should wear caps and gowns. Following the hooding ceremony, the newly hooded students will process together to Tiffany Loop for the Graduate Commencement ceremony.

Graduate Commencement Ceremony (master’s and doctoral students)

This will be our third annual Graduate Commencement Ceremony honoring SPU’s graduate students. Graduates will process by program into Tiffany Loop where they will receive their diploma covers as they walk across the platform. Tickets are not required.

Baccalaureate (undergraduate students)
Friday, June 10, 7:30–8:30 p.m., Royal Brougham Pavilion

Baccalaureate is an informal worship service shared by graduates and their families, friends, and professors. There will be no processional nor will any special seating arrangement be followed. Tickets are not required, and caps and gowns are not needed.

Falcons Forever Barbecue (Graduating students and their families)
Friday, June 10, 5:30--7:30 p.m., Location TBD

A barbecue picnic in celebration of our graduating seniors and their families. Members of last year's graduating class are also welcome to attend. Cost is $10 per person, children 8 and under get in free. 

Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony (undergraduate students)
Saturday, June 11, 1:00–3:30 p.m., Key Arena, 305 Harrison Street, Seattle

Commencement is a time-honored ceremony that recognizes the scholarship, service, and Christian growth of graduating students. It is the celebratory service where students, faculty, friends, parents, relatives, and staff congratulate students on their new beginning.

Tickets (free) are required for admission for all guests (age 3 and over) and graduates. Note: Students are responsible to pick up their tickets and distribute them to their guests. See the Undergraduate Commencement instructions for more information.

Key Arena is an indoor arena. Arena doors will open at 11:45 a.m. The ceremony will conclude at about 3:30 p.m.

Parking is available in several parking garages in close proximity to Key Arena. Fees vary by location. Cash only.

  • 1st Avenue North Garage: between John and Thomas Street (located 1/2 block south of Key Arena; closest walk of the three garage options)
  • Mercer Garage: Third Avenue North and Roy Street (located two blocks northeast of Key Arena)
  • 5th Avenue North Garage: Fifth Avenue North and Republican Street (located two to three blocks east of Key Arena, across Seattle Center, next to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation)

Commencement Live Stream

The following ceremonies will be streamed live on Friday and Saturday, June 10th and 11th for friends and family who are unable to attend:

-Ivy Cutting, Friday June 10th, 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.
-Graduate Commencement, Friday, June 10th, 2:00 - 3:30 p.m.
-Undergraduate Commencement, Saturday, June 11th, 1:00 - 3:30 p.m.

A BBQ picnic in celebration of graduating seniors and their families located in Martin Square.

Date: Friday, June 10
Time: 5:30–7 p.m.
Location: 5th Avenue Streetscape
Cost: $10 per person, children under 8 free.

Members of last year’s graduating class are also welcome to attend!
