Communication major – Journalism track 2015

As the communications coordinator for the Seattle Sounders FC, Ciaccio serves as the “middle man” between the front office, the media, and the technical staff, which includes the coaches and players. It is very “behind the scenes” he says, and allows for cool opportunities for access and networking.

How does your time at SPU connect to the work you’re doing today?

The job that I currently have has roots from four years ago, when I was recommended by SPU Sports Information Director Dan Lepse during my sophomore year. I also try to apply a standard of ethics that was ingrained in me at SPU to my work. I believe this will continue to pay dividends for me in not only career, but in all aspects of life.

Who made a difference in your SPU education?

Dan Lepse of the Athletic Department was the one who introduced me to the magical world of sports PR. He established a relationship with me as an eager freshman, then helped me get the job with the Sounders as a sophomore. In addition, President Dan Martin has been an intentional and genuine friend ever since I leveraged our Nazarene roots into a connection early on. The two Dans have had an immeasurable impact on who I am and who I want to be. I am still Danny, but they are definitely worthy of adopting the Dan moniker.

What advice do you have for students about life after graduation?

It’s OK to have a job that isn’t in your career. You don’t need to worry about the fact that you’re not changing the world at 23, but you’re establishing the foundation. SPU is a networking goldmine. Do the Mentor Program and establish relationships with professors.
