Dentist at Sonja Sproul Dentistry
Biology major 2007
As a dentist at Sonja Sproul Dentistry, Sproul’s practice includes everything from relieving someone’s toothache to simply boosting a patient’s confidence through an enhanced smile. Sproul purchased her father’s dental practice several years ago, and has seen the practice grow to the point that she was able to purchase a building to remodel; she plans to move the practice into that building this year. In addition to private practice, she currently serves as a dentist in the Army National Guard. She says it has been rewarding to know that she’s playing a role in the lives of those fighting for our country.
How does your time at SPU connect to the work you’re doing today?
Engaging the culture, and changing the world — that phrase was ingrained in me during my time at SPU, and continues to be something I strive for every day. I chose to work in health care because I love interacting with people and changing their lives for the better. My experience participating on dental mission trips has allowed me to engage in different cultures around the world and leave a positive impact on people through delivering free dental care and sharing the gospel.
Who made a difference in your SPU education?
The late Dr. Cindy Fitch was instrumental in helping me achieve my dreams of becoming a dentist. I believe my acceptance into University of Southern California School of Dentistry was in large part due to her efforts in preparing my application packet and believing in me. I had the pleasure of having dinner with my parents and Dr. Fitch the day after I received my acceptance letter, and to this day hold those special memories close to my heart knowing that she is no longer with us.
What advice do you have for students about life after graduation?
This is a great time to self-reflect on what you want to accomplish in life, and set goals on how to get there.
