Closing the Gap
$6.75 Million Remains To Be Raised in Final Year
IN THE FINAL YEAR OF The Campaign for Seattle Pacific University,
there is strong momentum heading down the stretch.

In October, President Eaton
addressed Washington, D.C., alumni, friends and prospective
students about “The Big Choice: The Story of Higher
Education Today.” |
Forty million
dollars — three-quarters of the unprecedented $52.85 million
Campaign goal — has been received to date by the SPU fund-raising
staff and its volunteer team. Several other major individual gifts
are currently in the works. Of the record 45 grant proposals SPU
made to corporations and foundations in the past year, a number have
resulted in significant gifts, and several more are in the final
decision stage.
The challenging news is that there remains
a gap of approximately $6.75 million to be raised before The
Campaign can be declared a complete success (see the chart below).
"SPU
has been blessed with phenomenal support, especially given the soft
economic environment,” says Campaign Chair Bruce Walker, chairman
and co-owner of Valco Graphics in Seattle. “To be approaching
75–80 percent of such a sizable goal at the beginning of The
Campaign’s final year is a real tribute to those who believe
in SPU’s mission.”
The commitment of all Seattle
Pacific supporters — alumni, friends, faculty and staff — is
still needed. “The ability to close the $6.75 million
gap rests heavily on our closest friends,” explains Bob McIntosh,
vice president for university advancement. “Every gift, no
matter the size, will help us reach our fi nal goal.”
There
are several opportunities for people to make gifts before the close
of The Campaign. Pledge cards will be available for those
who attend the upcoming regional events in California, Colorado
and Washington. Gifts may be made over the phone at 866/778-2638,
or online by visiting
The Campaign Web site at www.spu.edu/campaign.
Checks may also be mailed directly to The Campaign for Seattle
Pacifi c University, 3307 Third Avenue West, Suite 304, Seattle,
Washington, 98119. In all cases, donors have the option of designating
their support for a particular Campaign initiative such as The
Science Initiative, The Center for Scholarship and Faculty
Development Initiative, The Endowment Initiative or The
University Fund Initiative.
"
We have a great deal of momentum,” says
SPU President Philip Eaton, who will have visited 11 states and spoken
to 5,000 people during The Campaign, conveying his enthusiasm
for the University’s vision. “Demand for a Seattle Pacifi
c education has never been higher. Our academic programs have never
been stronger. Our facilities have never been better. Now we need
to keep that momentum going and push The Campaign for Seattle
Pacific University over the top.
“It’s important to
remember, though, that our ultimate goal is not to raise funds,” he
continues. “Our goal is to increase SPU’s ability to
engage the culture with the gospel of Jesus Christ and to change
the world. I hope every alum and friend of Seattle Pacific will
join us in this grand effort.”
