As a nutritionist in Seattle’s White Center neighborhood, Kelley Riggio Brown ’07 could tell her diverse, low-income clients, “eat more fruits and vegetables.”
But many of them lived close to convenience stores and corner stores, not grocery stores, and did not have the transportation to buy produce.
Brown’s interest in systemic health policy issues was sparked. She later did research in Guatemala. Now, she’s completed a master’s degree in public health with a global focus at the University of Illinois in Chicago. At World Vision in Washington, D.C., she analyzes research from across the globe. “It’s an exciting time to be working in global health,” she says. “Things change every day.”
