Announcing SPULink on June 24

The Center for Career and Calling, the Office of Student Employment, and the John Perkins Center will replace Joblink with a new job posting system and networking tool on June 24. Faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners are encouraged to join SPULink not only to post jobs, but also to find volunteers, speak on an employer panel, or meet with a student for an informational interview. Faculty and staff can find resources for student advising and internship postings, and to connect with SPU alumni and employers interested in speaking in classes. Watch for the launch on Wednesday, June 24, and sign up.

You’re Invited to Listen to Musical Final Exams

For their final exams, sophomores in music theory will present more than 40 original chamber music pieces on Tuesday, June 9, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., in First Free Methodist Church. This is a come-and-go style concert, so drop in whenever it is convenient.

Welcome These Visitors on June 26

Hundreds of prospective students, as well as new students, will be on campus Friday, June 26. Undergraduate Admissions is hosting a Summer Visit day, and Student Academic Services is hosting a New Student Advising session. Look for these students and their families and make them feel welcome.

Visual Communication Design Senior Art Show Ends June 12

The Art Department is currently presenting an exhibit in the Art Center Gallery featuring the work of graduating visual communication students. The exhibit highlights multiple mediums of visual communication including motion, interaction, exhibit design, print, and brand identities. The gallery is open 9 a.m.- 5 p.m., and the exhibit runs until June 12.

Arnett Hall
Arnett Hall Awarded LEED Gold Certification

Arnett Hall has been awarded a Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification in recognition of its sustainable design and construction. It is the third and highest-achieving LEED building on the SPU campus, joining Eaton Hall (Certified) and the Cremona Classrooms (Silver). Arnett utilizes energy saving strategies such as heat recovery, high efficiency water heaters, and LED garage and site lighting. Other features include a living green roof, low flow water fixtures, native plants in the landscape, covered bicycle parking, and environmentally preferred construction and finish materials throughout. What’s one thing you do to support better business or good labor practices? A message from Hannah Notess, managing editor of Response magazine. “We invite your answers to ‘The Question’ in the next issue of Response. We’ll feature stories of people who are working to end human trafficking and support trafficking survivors. Part of ending trafficking is changing the systems that exploit people in ways large and small — we all have a role to play. Tell us how you support better business or good labor practices."

Staff Payroll and Benefit Changes?

The 10th of each month is the last day to make changes to your upcoming payroll check. Do you need to add or remove your spouse and/or children from your health care plans? If so, contact Human Resources (HR) to complete the appropriate form. Changes might include events that are expected to impact your benefits and deductions, such as your spouse or children gaining or losing coverage due to employment, birth, marriage, etc. Additionally, any changes you wish to make to your 403(b) account contributions must be made by the 10th of the month. For changes to your 403(b) account, contact Transamerica Retirement Solutions at 1-888-676-5512 (5 a.m.-6 p.m. PST), or 1-800-755-5801. If you have any other benefits-related changes, call Mardeth Hughes in HR at 206-281-2816.




Faculty/Staff Bulletin Deadline. Summer Schedule Starts June 15.

The Faculty/Staff Bulletin is published every week during the academic year. If you have information or event news, send it as soon as possible to Bulletin Editor Tracy Norlen at fsb-editor@spu.edu. Submissions may be edited for clarity. Beginning June 15, the Bulletin will be published every other week during the summer. The next deadline is Thursday, June 11. The next Bulletin will be published Monday, June 15.

An article co-written by Professor of Educational Administration and Supervision Thomas Alsbury titled “Mandatory Community-based Learning in U.S. Urban High Schools: Fair Equality of Opportunity?” was published in the International Journal of Leadership in Education: Theory and Practice 19(1), 1-39.
