Art Department presents "Mosaic"
The SPU Art Department is pleased to present the 2024 Senior Visual Communication Design exhibition titled, "Mosaic." This culmination of design work features projects by students Erin Carty, Micky Flores-Nieves, Charlie Hill, Grace Horn, Brianna Ingram, Cole Johnson, Gloria Lee, and Sophia Ochs. By definition, mosaics are “different pieces that come together to make something bigger than themselves," By bringing their unique perspectives, strengths, and talents, they were able to create something truly magical. When their skills and designs were put together, they became Mosaic. Look at the students work on their class website spu.edu/viscom24 or follow them on Instagram @spuviscom24/ .
Please join us for a public reception with refreshments on Thursday, May 30, 5–7 p.m. at SPAC Gallery in the Seattle Pacific Art Center. The exhibition will be through Friday, June 7.

Workday for SPU: Falcon Flame
A message from the Workday Project Team: SPU has started the Workday implementation. While we are currently only implementing the Human Resources and Finance-related modules of Workday, this project is a strategic and institution-wide initiative as President Porterfield outlined in her March 5 email, so we want to keep everyone informed about its progress. See the recent project blog as well as the overall project site for updates and current information on the project, as well as our guiding principles for the system. Please email workday@spu.edu if you have questions or information for the project team.

SPU Theatre presents "Romeo & Juliet"
SPU Theatre produces a fringe-style treatment of "Romeo & Juliet," May 30-31 at 7:30 p.m. in McKinley Hall. Set in the present day, the production showcases the work of student actors and dramaturgs under the direction of the Candace Vance, associate professor of theatre, and Shelby Lunderman, assistant professor of theatre. Scrappy and innovative, this ensemble doesn’t shy away from the challenges of producing theatre on a shoe-string budget — nor does it shy away from the political statements embedded in Shakespeare’s text. Most importantly, what does it mean when children become the casualties of war?
All faculty and staff members can receive two complimentary tickets. Email boxoffice@spu.edu or call 206-281-2959 to reserve your seats. You can purchase additional tickets online.

Ferreiro's article published
An article by Alberto Ferreiro, professor emeritus of European history, titled, "Isidore of Seville and the Filioque," was published in Isidorianum (special issue on Isidorean on intellectual and spiritual thought) 33/ 1 (2024) 33-57. The introduction and proliferation of the double procession of the Holy Spirit formulae in Hispania is a rich topic. There are aspects of it that have been somewhat marginalized, however. Surprisingly, one of those is the evidence from Isidore of Seville, the most celebrated churchman of the seventh century. He had a role in spreading the double procession/ Filioque of the Holy Spirit through some of his works and his role in the Fourth Council of Toledo (633). This study for the first time brings them all together to assess the place of Isidore in making normative the Filioque in the broader context of Visigothic Hispania. This study intends to contribute to the approaching celebration of the 1700 anniversary of the Creed of Nicaea, 325-2025.
Alberto has also published three of what will be eventually 19 entries for the Lexikon für Konziliengeschichtsforschung, (Hispano-Roman, Suevic and Visigothic Councils), Vienna, Rome. They are: the Council of Elvira (306), Council of Zaragoza I (380), and Council of Toledo I (400), which are published online.
