Jan. 27. Chapel and Community Lunch

The next Chapel is Tuesday, Jan. 27, 11:10 a.m. in First Free Methodist Church with Alex Kato,  adjunct instructor of theology. The theme for the quarter is "Launching together: Following Jesus is not a solo journey." All faculty and staff are invited to join a community lunch each week after Chapel in the SUB Fireside Room. Bring your lunch and share fellowship with others across campus.

Thursday, Jan. 22: Adding Interactivity to Your Panopto Videos: Using Embedded Quizzes, Clips, and Time-Stamped Comments
This workshop explores how instructors can use Panopto to create more interactive video experiences. We’ll look at how embedded quizzes and questions can support self-check assessment and keep students engaged, along with strategies for embedding YouTube videos and using time-stamped comments to encourage interaction around course content. 
2–3 p.m. (On campus at ETM or online via Teams).

Monday, Feb 9: Teaching in the Digital Age of AI
This workshop invites faculty to explore questions and practices around teaching in the digital age of AI. A collaborative workshop with the librarians and Campus Writing. More details coming soon — save the date!

Thursday, Feb: 26: Implementing Student Accommodations in Canvas: Quizzes, Assignments, and Course Content
This workshop supports instructors in using Canvas to implement approved student accommodations and to provide appropriate flexibility for quizzes, assignments, and course content. We’ll cover practical steps such as extending quiz time, allowing extra attempts, and adjusting course materials to support accessibility. 2–3 p.m. (On campus at ETM or online via Teams).

Christina Barnes
Barnes poems published

Two poems by Christy Barnes, adjunct instructor and Center for Professional Education coordinator, were published in Salamander, a well-respected literary journal. The poems, titled “AI Lullaby,” can be viewed online as part of a digital preview of the issue.

Strong participates in panel

Doug Strong, Paul T. Walls Professor of Wesleyan Studies and the History of Christianity, was part of a panel presentation at the annual meeting of the American Society of Church History in Chicago on January 9. The topic of his presentation was: "Pre-Civil War Holiness Abolitionist Colleges as Places of Historical Possibility."

Alumnus Jim Cornelison
Cornelison sings national anthem before NFL playoff game

Alumnus Jim Cornelison '86 sang the national anthem before the Los Angeles Rams-Chicago Bears NFL divisional playoff game on January 18 in Chicago. He has sung the national anthem and “O Canada” before Chicago Blackhawk hockey games since 2008 and is popular with Chicage sports fans. The Sporting News published a profile on Cornelison.
