Diversity seed grants fund department action

Starting this autumn, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is providing seed grants that will support departmental efforts advancing the University’s strategic diversity goals.

The grants are intended to fund supplies and materials, consultant costs, and other measures aimed at those goals. The University’s four major strategic diversity goals are to increase representational diversity on campus, to cultivate diversity and reconciliation competencies, to foster an inclusive campus culture, and to maximize resources to encourage equitable outcomes for students, faculty, and staff.

Eight to 12 grants will be awarded in amounts around $1,000 from a total fund of $12,500, according to Sandra Mayo, vice president for diversity, equity, and inclusion. The grants, which are available for faculty and staff, aim to generate innovative ideas and encourage mutual commitment to diversity at Seattle Pacific.

Over the next three years, SPU’s non-academic departments will develop diversity action plans to introduce or reshape initiatives supporting diversity efforts. Academic departments will complete a parallel process overseen by the Faculty Diversity Committee.
