Why Post Student Employee Positions?

A message from the Office of Student Employment: When it comes to hiring students for positions, how should we go about recruiting? Some rely on flyers or word of mouth. However, one of the best ways to find future student employees is to post your open position on SPU Handshake. This platform has many benefits, such as:

  • Reaching the highest amount of potential student employees- More than 1,000 students have already used SPU Handshake.
  • Creating equitable hiring practices by posting all positions in the same place. This helps cut down confusion for students, as they all have the same opportunities.
  • Holding all of your job postings in one place to use for the future.
While hiring by word of mouth may yield some great student employees, you are missing out on many other great student employees and relationships. Hiring with SPU Handshake is easy and you can start today. Find instructions on how to post here! If you have any questions, contact ose@spu.edu.

SPU Wellness
From the Wellness Initiative: Weather and Environment

Weather and environment can impact mood and mental health. As we’re in the middle of summer and away from the fast-paced environment of academia, it’s important to recognize the benefits of sunshine and increased access to the outdoors and outside activities. We all may benefit by participating in outdoor activities or spending time in natural restorative environments. To learn more, visit the Wellness blog.

Memorial Service for Les Habegger August 14

A memorial service for longtime Seattle Pacific men’s basketball coach and Falcon Hall of Fame member Les Habegger will be held Monday, August 14, at University Presbyterian Church in Seattle. The service begins at 1 p.m., and it is open to the public. The church is located at 4540 15th Ave. N.E. in Seattle. Les passed away July 6 in Spokane at the age of 92. In his 17 seasons at SPU, Habbeger’s teams posted a record of 267-170, which still ranks as the most wins by any men’s basketball coach in school history. He took six of his teams to the NCAA Tournament, and his 1964-65 squad went all the way to the Elite Eight. After leaving SPU, Habegger served as an assistant coach and then general manager of the Seattle SuperSonics. He was with the team and Coach Lenny Wilkens when the Sonics won the 1979 NBA championship.
