| Encompasses primary prevention (health promotion and protection), secondary prevention, and community measures for assessing, monitoring, and implementing change for the health of communities. Examines epidemiological and selected evidenced based methods of assessing the health of communities and implementing change in the health outcomes for populations in the United States and globally. Considers factors that influence change at the individual and community level for application to clinical practice. Scrutinizes current issues influencing health as well as health care system readiness and responses to natural and man-made disasters. Students demonstrate in-depth application of selected individual and community change models for promotion of health or prevention of unhealthy life-styles and unsatisfactory outcomes. |

| Focuses on clinical decision-making skills in differential diagnosis of common presenting presenting symptoms in primary health care. Conducts branching in-depth history and physical examinations in clinical settings. Demonstrates selected treatment and assessment procedures and tools used in primary care with opportunities for student practice in skill development. Develops beginning skills in the intrepretation of selected diagnostic tests, reporting, documenting findings, and treatment plans that involve the patient in the process. Incorporates in-depth holistic assessment, health promotion and care at all levels of prevention. | Theory and reasoning skills that are part of the NP Advanced Practice Seminar I are expected to be demonstrated in the practice settings. A minimum of 165 hours distributed evenly across the quarter are required. More hours that are clinical may be assigned a student in order to attain skill competence.
