Encompasses primary prevention (health promotion and protection), secondary prevention, and community measures for assessing, monitoring, and implementing change for the health of communities. Examines epidemiological and selected evidenced based methods of assessing the health of communities and implementing change in the health outcomes for world populations and global perspectives. Considers factors that influence change at the individual and community level for application to clinical practice. Scrutinizes current issues influencing health as well as health care system readiness and responses to natural and man-made disasters. Students demonstrate in-depth application of selected individual, community, or population-based change models for promotion of health or prevention of unsatisfactory outcomes. |

Prerequisite: NUR 6211. Focuses on clinical decision-making skills in differential diagnosis of common presenting presenting symptoms in primary health care. Conducts branching in-depth history and physical examinations in clinical settings. Demonstrates selected treatment and assessment procedures and tools used in primary care with opportunities for student practice in skill development. Develops skills in the intrepretation of selected diagnostic tests, reporting, documenting findings, and treatment plans that involve the patient in the process. Begins the systematic study of nursing and related concepts for advanced nursing practice with selected aggregates, and development of a nursing design with a clinical focus with a selected aggregate. Students select clinical sites where they develop advanced practice skills related to clinical problems of their selected aggregates, in a working relationship with a master's-prepared nurse mentor. Incorporates in-depth holistic assessment, health promotion and care at all levels of prevention. Integrates group leadership principles in the seminar process, and begins the practice portion of the Advanced Nursing Practice Portfolio. Seminar 40 hours; Internship 167 hours. |

Theory and reasoning skills that are part of the NP Advanced Practice Seminar I are expected to be demonstrated in the practice settings. Internship practice provides an opportunity for patient, care, peer review of patient care, and testing of theory under supervision of an established advanced practitioner. A minimum of 167 hours distributed evenly across the quarter are required. More hours that are clinical may be assigned a student in order to attain skill competence.
