ART - HISTORY MAJOR
Suggested Course Sequence: A Four-Year Plan

At least 71 total and 30 upper-division credits are required for the BA in Art – Art History emphasis. This course sequence is meant to be used as a guideline. Consult with your faculty advisor or academic counselor about modifying this plan to meet your needs, and to reflect any coursework you have already completed prior to enrolling at SPU.

YEAR 1	Autumn	Winter	Spring	Any Quarter

Common Curriculum	USEM 1000	UCOR 1000 OR UFDN 1000	UCOR 1000 OR UFDN 1000

Major	ART 1102, ART 1103, ART 1104, ART 1202,ART 1205 OR ART 2302	ART 1102, ART 1103, ART 1104, ART 1202,ART 1205 OR ART 2302		NOTE: Students need 10 credits total from ART 1102, 1103, 1104, 1202, 1205, 2302

Competencies Exploratory Curriculum (EC)	Elementary foreign language, if requirement was not fulfilled in high school.			Complete Writing Skills and Math Skills Competency requirements, as dictated by placement tests

Other	Electives to reach at least 45 credits if needed

YEAR 2	Autumn	Winter	Spring	Any Quarter

Common Curriculum				UCOR 2000 UFDN 2000/3001

Major	ART 2602 PHI 1004	AR ART 2603	Art 3605	Begin taking approved elective courses

Competencies Exploratory Curriculum (EC)	A minimum of 10 credits in French, German or Italian over and above elementary foreign language requirements.			AHB, AHC, SSA, SSB, NSA, NSB, MAT (Choose two or three depending on competency courses needed.)

Other	Apply to the major upon successful completion of 10 units of foundation courses and ART 2602, ART 2603. Electives to reach at least 90 credits if needed

YEAR 3	Autumn	Winter	Spring	Any Quarter

Common Curriculum		Art 3608		UCOR 3000 UFDN 3100

Major			ART 3611	Continue taking approved elective courses.

Competencies Exploratory Curriculum (EC)				AHB, AHC, SSA, SSB, NSA, NSB, MAT (whichever categories remain unfulfilled)

Other	Apply to graduate once 105 credits and admission to major have been earned. Electives to reach at least 135 credits if needed

YEAR 4	Autumn	Winter	Spring	Any Quarter

Common Curriculum

Major		ART 3606	ART 4897	Finish taking approved elective courses in major: 15 credits total, including 9 upper-division.

Competencies Exploratory Curriculum (EC)				AHB, AHC, SSA, SSB, NSA, NSB, MAT (whichever categories remain unfulfilled)

Other	Create a final-year plan and meet with your faculty advisor for review. Electives to reach at least 180 total college-level quarter credits and 60 upper-division credits if needed
