Retired Soccer Coach Named to Hall of Fame
Pacific University soccer coach Cliff McCrath was inducted into the Washington State Sports Hall
of Fame.
In his 38 years as SPU coach, McCrath won five national NCAA Division II championships and
enjoyed 37 consecutive winning seasons, achieving the best record in Division II history: 512–90–87. His victory total of 597 was second on the all-time college list. Named national Coach of the Year in 1978, he celebrated that year’s national title by crawling two miles from SPU to the Space Needle on his hands and knees.
McGrath directs the Northwest Soccer Camp each summer, where hundreds of young players
have gained their start.
