Men's and women's soccer teams in NCAA playoffs. Women host playoffs at Interbay this week.
The men's and women's soccer teams are in the NCAA DII championships. The women will host the 1st and 2nd round of the playoffs at Interbay Stadium beginning Thursday, Nov. 18, and will play the winner of Thursday's game on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. The men's soccer team heads to California for the 1st round of the playoffs against Colorado State University Pueblo at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18. A message from Campus Dining: Between Monday, Nov. 15, and Wednesday, Nov. 17, you can order a pie for $10 for the upcoming holidays! Choose from apple, pumpkin, and cream pie. Order and pick up your pies in Gwinn Commons or at Corner Place Market.

Nov. 18: Autumn concerts for the Percussion and Jazz ensembles
The SPU Percussion Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble will present their autumn concerts on Thursday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the E.E. Bach Theater in McKinley Hall. The concert is free and all COVID-19 protocols will followed in the theater.
- The Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Director of Percussion Studies and Percussion Ensemble Dan Adams, will perform traditional West African drumming, marimba music of Guatemala, Pete O’Gorman’s quartet “Fire” and Ivan Trevino’s “Catching Shadows,” featuring seniors Arie Martinet and Eric Peterson.
- The Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Instructor of Jazz History and Jazz Piano Dan Kramlich, will perform jazz standards for jazz quartet.

Extended break hours: Mailing Services
From Mailing Services: Please note our Thanksgiving and Christmas break hours:
- Wednesday, Nov. 24, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.
- Closed Thursday–Friday, Nov. 25–26.
- Nov. 29–Jan. 3, Mailing Services will be open for business from 8 a.m.–4 p.m., however there will be no mail deliveries to the departments. You are welcome to come in during those hours to pick up your mail and/or packages. Mailing Services will be closed on Dec. 24.
- Dec. 27–31, Mailing Services will have limited operational hours of 8 a.m.–12 p.m., with no counter sales. But if you wish to pick up your departmental mail, please come to the back door and we will be happy to help you.
- On Jan. 3, 2022, Mail Services resumes normal operational hours, 8 a.m.–4 p.m., with afternoon department mail and package deliveries.

Goodbye reception for Craig Kispert
Faculty and staff are invited to a goodbye reception for Craig Kispert, senior vice president for finance and administration, on Monday, Nov. 22, 2–3:30 p.m. in Hendricks Falcon Club in Brougham Pavilion. A short program will begin at 2:30 p.m. Join us as we celebrate Craig’s 29-year legacy at SPU and wish him well on his next adventure.

Douglass, Tausen's article published, awarded funding
Katherine Douglass, associate professor of educational ministry and practical theology, and Brittany Tausen, associate professor of psychology, published an interdisciplinary article through the New Visions in Theological Anthropology (NViTA) project at St. Andrew’s University titled, “Can the Tools of Social-Cognitive Psychology Inform Spiritual Formation Practices?” They have also been awarded £25,000 in “Follow on Funding” from the NViTA project to continue their science-engaged theology research on the practice of loving our neighbor with students at SPU.

Hauck presents at ALA conference
Janet Hauck, business and social sciences librarian, made a presentation titled “Getting Down to Business (and Other Disciplines,Too): Teaching Interdisciplinary Research Skills Using the Business Research Competencies and Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) Framework” at the American Library Association’s BRASS Fall Conference in October 2021.

Renn co-presents at conference
Pete Renn, associate professor of curriculum and instruction, co-presented two papers at the Association of Educational Service Agencies conference last week in Portland, Oregon: “The Clearest of Reflection: Using Visual Analysis in the Social Studies Classroom as a Means to Interrogate Systemic Racism,” co-authored with Lauren DeHerrera. a recent SPU graduate student; and “Who Released the Kraken? Examining the Mega-monsters of (Un)ethical Practice in Doctoral Education,” co-authored with P. Konkol.

Ferreiro's article published and presented at conference
Alberto Ferreiro, professor of European history, has had the article/report (in Spanish), “Crónicas, Resumen del Simposio de Dresden, Alemania, 30 Septiembre/ 2 Octubre 2021. “Konzilien und die Welt der Klöster” accepted for publication in Anuario de Historia de la Iglesia (University of Navarra, Pamplona, Spain). He was asked to write an evaluation and description of the papers delivered. Alberto presented at the conference in September; he is also on the board of editors of the journal.
