Debbie Pope joined the full-time faculty at Seattle Pacific University in 2008 after teaching stints at Montreat College, Palm Beach Atlantic University, and Northwest University. Each year at SPU, Pope teaches Introduction to Interpersonal Communication, Public Speaking, University Seminar, and University Core 1000. She has also taught Theories of Communication, Gender Issues in Communication, Performing Literature, and Intermediate College Writing. Pope has a special research interest in the theological rhetoric of Presbyterian novelist/theologian, Frederick Buechner – her patron saint. A displaced Tennessean who also loves Flannery O'Connor, geraniums, Jazzercise, and cats, Pope drinks Starbucks coffee — without the mint julep. She attends First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue.
