Both the Theatre Major and the Theatre Minor are sizable when compared to most other degrees offered at Seattle Pacific.  This has to do with our goals of liberal education as coupled with practical artistic experience.  It means that great care needs to be taken in your enrollment planning.  The alternate year course offering pattern is described in the next section of this handbook.

Generally, the required courses of your major or minor are designed to introduce you to the major disciplines of the theatre.  Everyone is required to at least sample acting, technical theatre, directing, dramatic literature, and theatre history.  Your electives give opportunity for you to create your own emphasis within the course offerings, allowing you to pursue your own gifts and special interest.

Majors are required to put forward a Senior Project as part of their graduation requirements.  The greatest difficulty our majors experience with Theatre requirements is the postponement of the Senior Project.  Don’t let this happen to you. These projects are discussed in a separate section C.3.of this handbook.

Institutional rules stipulate that all degree requirements must be met in full and that no course grade below a 1.7 (C-) can be applied to the Major or Minor.

Any credits earned in theatre at another accredited institution and accepted by Seattle Pacific will apply toward your Theatre degree.  Student Academic Services defers authority to the Theatre Faculty, however, in determining equivalency of the credits to specific requirements of the Major and Minor.
