Center for Career and Calling What do you feel called to do with your life? This is a key question that we encourage students to explore during their time at SPU. Ask yourself: What are your natural talents and abilities? What things do you feel naturally drawn to? What interests you? What is your personality type? What issues or concerns tug at your heart? These questions and more frame how we work with students at the Center for Career and Calling (CCC). We help students explore these questions through individual career counseling/advising, career testing, workshops, events, and career classes. A computerized career guidance system is also available to assist students in identifying their skills, interests, and options for work and service. Career Center staff teach four courses:
The CCC also organizes an annual series of networking events, workshops, career fairs, and career information sessions, which serve to keep students current of trends in various career fields. Internships and Job-Search Basics SPU has a thriving Internship Program, which offers students the opportuniy to further explore their vocational calling, career options, and to gain professional experience. It is strongly recommended that students complete an internship (preferably two) prior to graduation. Many SPU majors require internships as part of the major curriculum. Internships are available in all majors and in a wide range of industries and organizations, locally, nationally, and internationally. The Center for Career and Calling also helps students with these basics of finding a job or internship:
An on-campus interview program brings representatives from national and local companies, government and nonprofit agencies, and school districts to campus to interview SPU students for jobs and internships. Job and internship listings are available on the CCC web page. Also, see our website for current information on choosing a major, finding an internship, and resources for finding a job that suits your interests, passions, and sense of God's calling on your life.
