Tea Time for Students

Dean Lorie Wild

“There are few hours more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea.” — Henry James

When Lorie Wild came to SPU as the SHS dean, she was looking for a practical yet personal way to get to know the students. She came up with the idea of hosting a monthly tea and inviting students to attend during their birthday month. The tea is an informal afternoon respite, complete with fancy tea cups and goodies.

The tea not only gives Lorie the opportunity to connect with students but also allows the Level 1/juniors and Level 2/seniors to get to know one another. The student conversations most often turn into a time of encouragement, with the senior students offering support to the less-experienced students. SHS faculty are also invited to attend during their birthday month, offering a richer dialogue among the group.
