Q&A With Jobe Korb-Nice

Undergraduate Admissions Director Jobe Korb-Nice Jobe Korb-Nice, director of Seattle Pacific’s undergraduate admissions, has been helping prospective students and families at Seattle Pacific for seven years. A student himself, he’ll soon hold an M.B.A. from SPU. He took a break from his travels to answer a few questions for us.

What do you like best about your job?

My role is to share SPU’s mission with as many people as possible. I’ve met lots of accomplished individuals who love Jesus and are making a difference in their communities. I’m often struck by the complexity of students’ schedules — church activities, athletics, work, volunteering, and challenging course loads. I thought I was a busy high school student, but I’m certain I couldn’t keep pace with today’s students!

Has being a father changed the way you approach your work, especially your work with parents?

Like all of you, I want the best for my two children — and that requires careful planning. Our staff members help prepare students early for success in high school and college. We offer workshops that coach students on how to write good essays, put together strong applications, search for colleges and scholarships, and more.

What should parents and students be doing this month as it relates to admissions?

By May 1, students who were admitted to SPU should have let us know whether they intend to enroll. If your student chose SPU, the next step is to attend an Orientation/New Student Advising event to register for Autumn Quarter classes. Housing applications were due May 30. During the summer students will receive information about Orientation/Welcome Week and roommate assignments.

Parents of younger students may contact us to set up a visit or speak to one of our admissions staff members.
