Dear Parent,
Let me introduce myself. My name is Dan Martin, and I am the new president of Seattle Pacific University.
Since a new academic year is about to begin at SPU, I thought this was an excellent time to greet you — and to tell you something about myself. I’m sure that you, as the parent of a Seattle Pacific student, may be wondering about me and what I bring to SPU.
When I was invited to become president of SPU with the retirement of President Philip W. Eaton, it was the opportunity of a lifetime. Over my years as a university administrator and president, I have observed Seattle Pacific and consider it one of the nation’s great Christian universities. Its vision to engage the culture and change the world is the very essence of what I believe a Christian university should be about: putting knowledge and skill to use for the benefit of the world, motivated by the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I accepted this position because I want to enable students to achieve their academic goals, and to equip them to influence the world for good. And I believe that Seattle Pacific is positioned to do this in a way that no other university can.
I know that your family has made an investment in SPU. So I want to assure you that I will work every day to provide students with an education that challenges and develops their intellect, fosters their spiritual growth and discipleship, and then inspires them to explore their unique calling in the world.
I’m eager to experience my first year as president alongside the extraordinarily accomplished students of Seattle Pacific. I’m also eager to meet parents, and to hear your dreams for your students.
Thank you for the trust you have placed in SPU. I will work very hard to live up to that trust.
Warmly,
Daniel J. Martin
President
