Nursing Praxis: Spring 2015

A Full Pool of Nurse Applicants

A Full Pool of Nurse Applicants

This year we saw the largest ever application pool to the undergraduate program. There were 97 SPU applicants, 136 transfer applicants, and 44 post-baccalaureate applicants. Of those applicants, we interviewed 144 on February 21. We had great support on our interview day from nursing alumni Charise (Stevens) Yarborough ’91, Christina Jackson ’13, Morgan (Burley) Lumsden ’13, and Kristy (Blaisdell) Goings ’13.

In mid-March, the admissions committee, led by Dr. Vicki Aaberg, selected the class of 2017 — a total of 64 students, including seven direct-admit students. Students who are “direct admits” are admitted to the nursing major when they enter as freshmen. These students come with high academic qualifications, including strong GPAs and SAT/ACT scores. Their seats in the nursing program are assured as long as they continue to meet the academic requirements for admission through their prerequisite courses.

We are excited about the Class of 2017 and the many contributions they will make to SPU and the profession!
