Kim Cooper MSN ’14, family nurse practitioner graduate, was selected from a very competitive pool of applicants as a resident in the first International Community Health Services ARNP residency class that began in September 2014. ICHS is the largest organization to provide health care for low-income Asian, Pacific Islanders, immigrants, and refugees in Washington state. The residency program provides superb training from top-notch clinicians and educators who are highly experienced in caring for community health center patients.

Allen Smith MSN ’11, clinical nurse specialist graduate, has been promoted to the rank of colonel in the U.S. Army. Allen is currently practicing at the 28th Combat Support Hospital in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, as the deputy commander for nursing.

The Strengthening Care Opportunities through Partnership in Ethiopia (SCOPE) project is a partnership between the University of Washington’s Department of Global Health, University Presbyterian Church in Seattle, the University of Gondar (Ethiopia), and the North Gondar Diocese of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. SCOPE works with local faith leaders in Ethiopia to educate them about HIV/AIDS and antenatal care. SCOPE has many ties to SPU. Founder Nancy Andrews earned a degree in computer science from SPU. SHS Adjunct Instructor Sandra Fisher, DNP, RN, serves on the leadership team of SCOPE. Zerai Asgedom BSN ’07 was a 2013 SCOPE fellow. For more information, visit scopehealth.org.
