The School of Health Sciences continues to build on its strengths of robust academics and relationship-centered learning. The students, faculty, and staff are the direct beneficiaries of the generous support from alumni and friends. When you donate, you put into action your commitment to excellence in nursing education.
A financial gift is generally given toward scholarships or facility improvements, but the needs can be as simple as a pair of shoes. Recently, two students were persistently arriving at clinical wearing shoes that did not meet the SPU dress code. The initial thought was that these students were unprepared. With some additional inquiry, we discovered that they were not able to afford shoes for clinical. The embarrassment of not being able to meet the dress code plus the expense of shoes were added stresses for the students. SHS was able to purchase shoes for the students through the Alumni Council Fund for SHS Students. One of the students said, “I wanted to say thank you so much because now that I have comfortable shoes I will not have to worry about my feet hurting. I am truly thankful and appreciative for the financial assistance of allowing me to purchase comfortable shoes.”
