Frequently asked questions

Location

The math lab is located in Otto Miller Hall (OMH), room 126.

What is the Math Lab?

The Math Lab is a place where students work independently on a number of different courses. The Math Lab is used for study and testing and is always staffed with a math department faculty person and a student TA. A typical student will study either in the lab or in a location of their choosing and then come to the lab for testing. Math help is always available and drop-ins are welcome.

These courses do not include a lecture; students study self-instructional materials, obtain instructional help in the Math Lab when necessary and take tests in the Math Lab.

The following courses are available through the Math Lab:

  • MAT 0121 Arithmetic Review (1 credit)
  • MAT 0122 Arithmetic Review (1 credit)
  • MAT 0123 Arithmetic Review (1 credit)
  • MAT 0124 Arithmetic Review (1 credit)

What do I do if I am enrolled in a math lab course?

A student enrolled in a Math Lab course needs to go to the Math Lab located in Otto Miller Hall 126 in the first few days of the quarter. While there, the student will take a tour that will acquaint them with the operations of the Math Lab, and then take a short quiz (open book!) on how the lab operates. It would be helpful if the student reads the syllabus for their particular course, as well as the general instructions, that are available on this web site.  Allow at least 45 minutes for your first visit.

Note: The tests in the lab have deadlines so it is imperative that the student attends the lab as soon as possible in the quarter.

Syllabi for Math Lab Courses

A copy of the syllabus for each of the math lab courses is available here.  They are available as Adobe Acrobat PDF files.  To view or print them, you will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader, which can be downloaded for free from here.  You can also view the general instructions for the math lab, which provide information about policies which apply to all math lab courses.
