Winter Quarter student-athlete highlights
Falcon student-athletes made their mark during Winter Quarter and into Spring Break this year. Here are just some of the highlights in men’s basketball, women’s golf, track and field, women’s crew:
On March 8, junior Maya Ewing raced to the no. 1 time nationally for NCAA Division II in the 3000 meters in Portland at the PLU Open track and field meet. This was Ewing’s first-ever NCAA provisional qualifier, and she obliterated her previous best of 11:19.21 set during her freshman season in 2023.
The Men’s Basketball team with an 18-15 record defeated no. 1 seed Central Washington, with their 21-9 record to bring home the Great Northwest Athletic Conference championship title on March 8. It was the fifth time the Falcons have taken home this title since 2013. From there, the team traveled to the NCAA opener in San Diego at Point Loma, where the Sea Lions defeated the Falcons 68-54.
During Spring Break, the Women’s Crew hosted the Falcon Regatta on March 22. Going up against GNAC crews from Western Washington, Cal Poly Humboldt, and the University of Central Oklahoma, the Falcon Varsity 4+ and Varsity 8+ boats made a strong showing in this regatta on the Lake Washington Ship Canal, behind the Seattle Pacific campus.
And in the team’s inaugural season, the Women’s Golf team played to a top-10 finish in the South Colorado Classic, March 23-24. GNAC Player of the Week, sophomore Zoe Garcia and junior Brigitte Fenton were outstanding in Sunday’s opening round. Garcia had a first-round score of 74; and Fenton’s opening-round score of 77. As a team, Falcons finished in ninth place.
Finally, four Falcon basketball players earned Academic All-District award honors in late March from College Sports Communicators. Seattle Pacific’s Basketball players, Trace Evans, Owen Moriarty, Jaxon Nap, and Hunter Beirne, earned recognition for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
