NUR 6710: Advanced Practice Nursing in Pediatric Primary Care
Prepares the family nurse practitioner student to provide primary care for the pediatric population, from birth through adolescence. Emphasis is placed on the integration of advanced practice nursing process and theory, research findings, and differential diagnosis with techniques of clinical health assessment and management of infants, children, and adolescents. Didactic content addresses comprehensive diagnosis and management of common health problems, including appropriate pharmacology, diagnostic procedures, laboratory tests, and follow-up care for patients with both acute and chronic conditions. Using a family-centered and developmental perspective, related advanced pathophysiology, research, psychosocial factors, and ethical considerations are explored. The course has a strong focus on health promotion, disease prevention, the care of underserved populations, and culturally competent care.
