Sarah Vavrinec

Bio

Sarah is originally from Olympia, WA, and also has roots in Bellingham and Seattle, WA. She has always had an interest in the arts, including music, photography, illustration, interior design, and graphic design. Sarah hopes to pursue a diversified career that combines her various interests. After graduation, she hopes to either be a graphic designer or visual merchandiser in the interior design field. Sarah’s primary joy is working within the physical spheres of design, and looks forward to creating beautiful spaces and products. She looks forward to the challenge to creating pieces that are inclusive, creative, and innovative. Sarah has experience in app design, motion design, packaging, printing, photography, and video editing. As show in her work, her own personal style is primarily flat design, although she has experimented with minimalism and retro design. Sarah will graduate this year with her BA in Visual Communications and a minor in Digital Media.

Calindus

Calindus is a project Sarah created that features a series of perfume bottles named after different areas of the world. The scents also reflect thsoe areas, and feature ingredients either inspired or actually taken from those parts of the world. The perfume is supposed to entice customers to travel and learn more about the world around them through these retro-inspired scents.

“storytelling is our obligation to the next generation. If all we are doing is marketing, we are doing a disservice…Give something of meaning to your audience by inspiring, engaging, and educating them with story.”

This magazine focuses on the topic of book cover illustrations. The front of the magazine features a sketch of William Shakespeare, and various illustrations that symbolize his work. This magazine teaches the importance of book illustration, how to create your own cover artwork, and the current trends of illustrated covers. It also covers the historical context of book cover artwork, and how it is used to entice readers.
