The Living Well Initiative is a multidisciplinary educational program addressing the needs of persons and families affected by severe and persistent mental health conditions. The program is co-sponsored by the School of Health Sciences and the School of Psychology, Family and Community.

Our goal is to promote awareness and understanding of these conditions through the establishment of the Dickinson Fellowship Program, research projects, campus outreach and annual conferences.

  • The Dickinson Fellowship Program provides advanced, specialized training for students pursuing vocations in the area of mental health. Fellowships are awarded to undergraduate and graduate students in psychology; marriage and family therapy; and nursing. Upon receipt of the award, fellows participate in a full academic year's sequence of readings, seminars, conferences, field work and other training experiences, as directed by faculty mentors from both the School of Health Sciences and the School of Psychology, Family and Community.

  • Research projects examine the concerns of those afflicted with severe and persistent mental health issues, and the concerns of their families.

  • Campus outreach provides training opportunities for staff and faculty working with students with a variety of mental health issues. Training opportunities include lectures and presentations by local mental health professionals.

  • Conferences and Guest Lectures feature presentations from leaders in the field of mental health research, clinical application and pastoral intervention. These conferences are open to ministry and mental health professionals, as well as to the lay public.

Seattle Pacific University believes its ministry extends beyond the classroom into the broader community. The Living Well Initiative is one means by which we accomplish this task.
