|Winter Grades Due March 26|
Winter grades are due in Student Academic Services (SAS) by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 26. Grades may be submitted to SAS via the web, in person, placed in the SAS drop box (located outside of Demaray Hall 151), mailed, or faxed to 206-281-2669. Timely submission of grades helps students and offices with important processes such as the academic dismissal process, disbursing financial aid, and processing enrollment verification. If instructors want grades to appear on the web before March 26, they need to contact Coordinator of Student Records Kelli Knapp at email@example.com so that she can roll the grades to academic history. If there are challenges when grading students, please contact SAS prior to the grading deadline – we may be able to assist with resolving the situation. |Important Academic Deadlines|
Waitlist ends Thursday, March 26. The SPU waitlist policy is in effect until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, March 26. The waitlist operates on a first-on, first-off approach. If space opens up in a waitlisted class, Student Academic Services (SAS) will contact students via email who have been registered from the waitlist.
Increasing class enrollment ends Friday, April 3, at noon. If you would like to accommodate more students into your course, and the room capacity of the classroom would not be exceeded, contact Tiffany Shelton, coordinator of schedules and publication in SAS, at email@example.com or 206-281-2635 by noon on Friday, April 3, to have your class enrollment increased.
Last day to add classes is Friday, April 3. Students are able to register, add and drop courses until 5 p.m. on Friday, April 3. After this time, web registration is no longer available for Spring Quarter. This is the last day to register for classes, including classes that meet once a week.
Other registration deadlines. Students wishing to take a course pass/no credit or register for an internship, independent study, individual instruction in music or practicum may do so in SAS, Demaray Hall 151, until 4:30 p.m., Monday, April 13. Thank you for your help in meeting these deadlines.
|Lincoln Bicentenary Celebrated by Thalia Symphony|
SPU's orchestra-in-residence, Thalia Symphony, presents a Lincoln bicentenary concert on Friday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m. at First Free Methodist Church. All music will relate to the year 1809, honoring the birth of President Abraham Lincoln. The concert is directed by Professor of Music Eric Hanson, and includes Haydn's Symphony No. 88, Mendelssohn's “Fingal's Cave" Overture, and Copland's “Lincoln Portrait," narrated by Assistant Professor of Music Stephen Newby. An additional concert will be held Sunday, April 5, at 3 p.m. at Northshore Performing Arts Center, 18125 92nd Avenue NE in Bothell.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors and can be purchased at www.thaliasymphony.org. Both events are wheelchair accessible. For more information, call 206-281-2048. More
|Staff Member of the Year Nominations Are Now Open|
Do you know a co-worker who “engages" the SPU vision? Someone who exemplifies a “grace-filled" attitude, displays competence on the job, and models Christian character? If so, please take a few minutes and submit your nominee for consideration. There are two categories for nominations – one for non-exempt staff (the Oral V. Hemry Award), and one for exempt staff. The staff members ultimately selected will each receive a $1,000 honorarium from the University, and be honored at the President's Spring Forum on Tuesday, May 5, in Royal Brougham Pavilion. The online nomination form only takes a few minutes. The SPU Staff Council will do all the necessary follow up. The deadline for nominations is April 14. |Nominate a Student for the Barnabas Scholarship|
Do you know a student who demonstrates Christian character, has made a
commitment to on- or off-campus service, shows a willingness to take on tasks
regardless of recognition or challenge, demonstrates leadership, and will be a
senior during the 2009-10 school year? If so, we encourage you to nominate this
student (or students) for the Barnabas Servant Leadership Scholarship. Recipients
of the scholarship receive a $750 cash grant and a contribution of $250 given in
their name to a charity of his or her choice. Online nominations are due by
April 24, and can be found on the University Ministries/Center for Worship website. More
|SFS Online Account Statement Notifications|
All faculty and staff have an account with Student Financial Services (SFS), even if you are not a registered student. Please take a moment to review your SFS account statement when you receive notification from SFS that your online account statement is available. You have several options for making payment including online payments and payroll deductions. Please note that payroll deductions are not automatic! If you would prefer to receive paper statements in addition to electronic statements, or have questions about your account, contact SFS at 206-281-2061. |WebMD: Personal Health Assessments Reward|
Take charge of your health! Premera-covered employees and their covered spouses already have access to the many resources of WebMD. Check it out by visiting the HR webpage and selecting "Wellness Program through WebMD" for information. Beginning April 1, you will be able to complete your Health Quotient Personal Health Assessment for a reward. Results are immediate: an evaluation of your health that includes an overall "wellness score," information about any lifestyle health risks that apply to you, suggestions on how to reduce or eliminate your lifestyle health risks, and a summary to share with your doctor, if you choose. Receive $75 and access to personalized resources to improve your health – all with an investment of 20-25 minutes on the assessment between April 1 and 30. |Friends of the Library Inaugural Event March 25|
Dr. Harry Bruce, dean and professor of the Information School at the University of Washington, will help kick off the SPU Library's new endowment program called “Friends of the Library" on Wednesday, March 25, noon-1:30 p.m. in Upper Gwinn Commons. Bruce will present current thinking about the future of academic libraries. He will be joined by University Librarian Bryce Nelson. “This is my dog, Lucy. We had 16 good years with her until March 21 when she
needed to be put to sleep. Never has a dog loved ‘her people' so much, or been
loved so much. We are thankful for all the time we had with her! Lucy was the
sweetest little girl ever. She had boundless energy, and even at age 16, could
still run around like a puppy when on the beach. She never was a barker, but
sometimes would be caught barking at the neighbor's cat if it got too close to
our yard – mostly because she was terrified of cats! Whenever I went home to
visit, Lucy and I would always find a sunny place on the carpet and take a nap
together. My family had Lucy since I was in the second grade. She loved playing
outside, and being anywhere her family was. She would follow us all over the
house so that she was never too far away from her people. She couldn't walk very
well in really deep snow, so we rigged up a sled so she could accompany us
