|Sitecore and Contribute Brownbag Lunch: Ask Questions and Get Answers|
Do you have technical questions now that you're using Sitecore to update your department's redesigned website? Or do you have Contribute questions? Come to the brownbag lunch on Thursday, July 18, noon-1 p.m. in the University Communications Conference Room in Lower Weter Hall and get your questions answered. Bring your lunch and/or laptop, and you'll get one-on-one help from the University Communications Web Team. You'll also get some helpful tips, as well as cookies! |Need a Department Retreat Location? Come to Camp Casey!|
Remember the Camp Casey Conference Center for your department retreats (rates as low as $15 per person), or as part of a church or community organization in which you belong ($22-25 per person). Family events are also welcome. Plus, there is a campground at Casey as well. |Fuel-Efficient Vehicle Credit|
Faculty and staff who drive low-emitting, fuel-efficient vehicles are eligible for a 20 percent parking discount. To qualify, a vehicle must be rated 50 or higher in the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy's (ACEEE) Green Book. Ratings are awarded based on tailpipe emissions, fuel economy, vehicle mass, and (if hybrid or electric) battery mass and composition. To determine whether your vehicle qualifies, visit www.greenercars.org/news.htm and click on the “LEED MY 2000-2013 Low Emission Vehicles" link. If your vehicle qualifies, contact Garrett McGuire in Safety and Security at email@example.com to receive the discount.
|Changes to Your Payroll?|
The 15th of each month is the last day to make changes to your upcoming payroll check. Are you dropping your spouse or any dependents from your health care plans? Be sure you have completed the appropriate form by the 15th of the month prior to the date family dependents will start other coverage. Otherwise, the change can only occur the subsequent month, and any premiums paid will not be refunded. Changes might include events that are expected to impact your benefits, such as your spouse or children gaining or losing coverage due to employment, birth, marriage, etc. Additionally, any changes you have made to your 403b account contributions must be made by this date. For changes to your 403(b) account, contact Transamerica Retirement Solutions (Transamerica-Diversified) at 1-888-676-5512 (5 a.m.-6 p.m. PST), or 1-800-755-5801. If you have any other benefits-related changes, call Carrie McCrimmon in Human Resources, at 206-281-2676.
|Brougham Pavilion Summer Hours|
Royal Brougham Pavilion summer hours continue until Friday, September 27. The hours are Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Brougham will be closed Saturdays and Sundays.

|Watson's New Book to Be Published|
Seedbed Publishing has entered an agreement with Assistant Professor of Historical Theology Kevin Watson to publish his forthcoming book The Class Meeting: Reclaiming a Forgotten (And Essential) Small Group Experience (working title). In the book, Kevin pulls a play from the playbook of John Wesley and brings it to life for today's church. "Because most small groups are built around curricular study resources, people rarely get down to the real substance of what small groups are all about — transformation, or becoming like Christ," says Kevin. "Most Christians know much more than they are practicing or applying to their lives. Class meetings were essential for the first Methodists, and they are essential today because they help people grow in faith in Christ and learn how to follow Jesus with their lives." The book is scheduled for release in Autumn 2013.
|Lemcio's New Book to Be Published|
At the end of the year, Wipf and Stock will publish Soaring With St. John: Flight Paths of the Eagle. A Pedagogical Aid by Emeritus Professor of New Testament Gene Lemcio. This informal series aimed at classroom instruction and learning also includes previous volumes by Gene on the books of Revelation (2011) and Mark (2012).
|SOE Faculty Members Present Research Paper|
Several faculty members from the School of Education presented research papers at the EdMedia 2013 World Conference on Educational Media and Technology in Victoria, British Columbia, June 24-27. This annual conference is sponsored by the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education. The papers presented were:
"The Use of Online Collaborative Tools and Student Perception of Social Presence" by David Wicks, Art Ellis, and Andrew Lumpe.
"Assessment of Teacher Candidate Reflection in E-Portfolios," by Daihong Chen, Andrew Lumpe, and Dan Bishop. (Daihong is a Ph.D. student working with Andrew.)

|SPU Donor, Alumna Esther Helsel Dies|
Esther Helsel, wife of late Emeritus Professor Walter Helsel, died on June 30 at the age of 97. Esther was a 1939 alumna of Seattle Pacific, and taught in public schools in Shoreline for more than 30 years. "Esther's passionate response to the launch of SPU women's soccer was heartwarming," says Vice President of University Advancement Tom Box. "She was so excited about the new program and was determined to fund the Helsel Women's Soccer Endowment. I recall her occasional visits to the press box at Interbay to watch the SPU women compete. She was very proud SPU finally had women's soccer." There are two SPU endowments named for the Helsels; the Walter and Esther Helsel Free Methodist Ministry Scholarship Endowment established by the Helsel family, and the Esther M. Helsel Women's Soccer Charter Endowment established by Esther.
